Hand-signed Flatbed Textured Giclée on boxed canvas limited edition set by Robert Oxley.
Passionate about the conservation of big cats, Oxley returns to these incredible creatures in his new Autumn 2025 collection, this time inspired by hope, luck and prestige. From tales of cats warning of bad weather to a shopkeeper whose luck changed after taking in a feline friend, the origin of the Japanese Maneki Neko waving cat varies from region to region. However, the prosperity and good fortune associated with these figurines remains constant across the globe.
Influenced by the folklore that surrounds the symbol, Oxley weaves its themes of luck and quiet strength in the two artworks. Working in a rich palette of plum, brown and gold, Oxley captures the big cats in their natural colours, offering a striking new direction from his kaleidoscopic shades.
Carefully selecting titles to reflect these themes, Oxley borrows the Irish ‘Orla’, meaning ‘golden princess’, and Roman ‘Lucullen’, meaning ‘luxurious and rich’, to further the sense of luck, prestige and hope that fuels the collection.
Oxley captures the power and fluid movement of the big cats, encapsulating the raw energy of the animals in the highly detailed brushstrokes alongside his drip technique and hallucinatory swirling lines, which creates a sense of life and movement.
Oxley subtly added touches of liquid gold leaf to the original artworks, embellishing the animals with an ethereal and regal air. This warmth is translated into the hand-signed limited edition by laying the image over a wash of gold ink, adding dimension and life to the artwork. The print has been created as a flatbed print applied over a previously primed canvas that would have been painted gold. (so the gold is the first layer of the print).
This framed set includes:
'Orla'
'Lucullen'

The artist
Robert Oxley
As a child, Robert Oxley spent his hours roaming the forests around a north-east coalmining village, dreaming of becoming a zookeeper. Today, the lions, tigers and elephants who roamed his imagination are given life in his dazzling wildlife paintings. Immersing himself in pop surrealism, Oxley presents viewers with what he calls 'psychedelic natural history'.
Oxley's affinity with nature is evident in every instinctive brushstroke. He began his art career by painting his school friend's denim jackets with the logos of their favourite heavy metal bands. This rock 'n' roll ethos can be seen in his art, with its loose paintwork and free attitude, which makes it so popular with his many collectors.
