Described as the ‘Pop artist of these times’ by The Independent, Pakpoom Silaphan has taken inspiration from icons such as Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali and Frida Kahlo for his mixed media artworks.
After his move to Bangkok, Pakpoom became exposed to the juxtaposition of Thai culture and mass consumerism that later inspired his work. Using found branded objects like metal advertising signs and wooden crates, he overlays recognisable figures such as Bob Dylan and Mick Jagger with multinational company logos like Pepsi and 7UP. Using vintage materials gives a fresh new Pop Art interpretation to something that may otherwise be thrown away.
By experimenting with household names, Pakpoom implies that his identity and artistic style are akin to a recognised global brand.
