“The Pop Collection utilizes the world around us in the form of iconic people we love and respect or brands that enhance our life experience,” say the Bisiaillon Brothers. “These images are a combination of colourful abstracts by Jeffrey with inspiration from the evolution of art that occurred after photography. Symbology and the digital tools of today are utilized by Michael and the Pop collection continues to evolve”.
Illustrious champagne brands are the perfect subject for the brothers’ ‘Urban Fizz’ works, as they are synonymous with style and luxury. Oscar Wilde once famously said: “Only the unimaginative can fail to find a reason for drinking champagne” and legend says that Marilyn Monroe bathed in the stuff (350 bottles to fill a bath, supposedly). There’s something decadently timeless about raising a toast over a glass of champagne, and in these new pieces, the Bisaillon Brothers combine the sophistication of champagne with an urban abstract contemporary twist.
‘Bubbling’ features the Bollinger brand, with accentuated champagne bubbles, and ‘Sparkling’ mixes the decadence of champagne with the Chanel logo - Coco Chanel famously said: “I only drink champagne on two occasions; when I am in love and when I am not.” ‘Vitalising’ features Moët & Chandon, who were purveyors of champagne to the late Queen Elizabeth II; the band Queen’s epic song Killer Queen starts off with Freddie Mercury singing: ‘She keeps Moët & Chandon in her pretty cabinet’, which is a pretty great pop culture endorsement.
The final piece, ‘Drinking Stars’, features Dom Pérignon, the monk who perfected making champagne, and who allegedly described the experience of tasting his creation as “drinking stars”. When the four pieces are displayed in the above order, there is an alternating black and white background, and when viewed this way, you will notice that some of the splashes of colour appear to transfer from piece to piece.
