Created to encourage the next generation of artistic talent, our Young Fine Artist competition invites schools from across the UK to enter their students for the chance to display their work alongside some of the world’s most popular artists.
And 2019 certainly got off to a great start when 12-year-old Sam from St Faith’s School in Cambridge was awarded first prize for his dazzling Paul Kenton inspired cityscape. Watch out Paul, you may have some competition!
Sam’s winning artwork was displayed in our Cambridge gallery for a month, and he was also presented with £100 worth of vouchers to spend at leading art supply store, Cass Art.
Natasha,12, won second place for her interpretation of works by renowned fashion photographer Raphael Mazzucco, whilst 12-year-old Dominic’s Bob Dylan-esque composition was awarded third place.
Ahead of Sam’s victory, 29 budding artists from the school were invited on a tour of the gallery in the city’s Grand Arcade. Here, gallery manager Stacy Bodkin taught them about the history, inspirations and techniques of our artists to inspire the pupils as they undergo their own art studies at school.
Stacy adds: “It was wonderful to welcome the children. It’s clear to see how much time and thought Sam gave to the winning painting, and I’m sure Paul Kenton would be thrilled to see this interpretation of his work.”
"This has been a fantastic project for the children to be involved in . The competition has left them feeling motivated to put their creative skills into practice back at school."
