Named after the Bob Marley song, ‘Stir It Up’ sees Robert Oxley return to his favourite animal to paint – the tiger. Realising that a limited blue palette streamlined his work, Oxley developed a different approach to painting, finding the form of the animal before adding his signature drips.
Working almost exclusively in blue tones, Oxley makes use of black and white to create contrast and dimension within the painting. The eyes of the tiger are in sharp focus, as though locked on its prey. Inspiring awe in the viewer, these detailed eyes stand out from the rest of the image even though they are painted in the same blue hues.
Oxley’s distinctive hallucinatory style can be seen in the tiger’s bold stripes and the swirling lines of its muzzle. The brushstrokes become more jagged as they reach the edges of the animal, creating a sense of vibration.
This artwork is a Textured Flatbed Giclée on Canvas limited edition and can be purchased in a set of three.

Textured Flatbed Giclée on Canvas
Given Castle Fine Art's expertise as UK's leading art retailer, we are committed to the highest standards specially regarding printing. Derived from the French term gicler’, the term describes a printing process whereby microscopic dots of pigment-based ink are sprayed onto archival-quality paper to ensure the fidelity of a limited edition to an original artwork. It is believed that a giclée will significantly outlast a lithographic print, keeping its vivid colour for up to 200 years.

The artist
Robert Oxley
As a child, Robert Oxley spent his hours roaming the forests around a north-east coalmining village, dreaming of becoming a zookeeper. Today, the lions, tigers and elephants who roamed his imagination are given life in his dazzling wildlife paintings. Immersing himself in pop surrealism, Oxley presents viewers with what he calls 'psychedelic natural history'.
Oxley's affinity with nature is evident in every instinctive brushstroke. He began his art career by painting his school friend's denim jackets with the logos of their favourite heavy metal bands. This rock 'n' roll ethos can be seen in his art, with its loose paintwork and free attitude, which makes it so popular with his many collectors.
