Well-loved artist Bob Barker is known for his heartwarming depictions of love, family and childhood. His new giclée on canvas illustrates his signature ‘Northern Impressionism’ style, which contrasts light and shadow with an inner glow inspired by the mill towns of his youth.
There are two ways this picture can be viewed. Bob has a fond memory of his grandma, who used to swear “every bloody pillar, every bloody post” about every dog they ever had, which dog owners may be able to relate to! The second is the old man walking his dog, gazing over the scene of his youth and his military past. As the infantry call ‘The Last Post’ plays in his head, the mills and his memories fade away.
Bob adds: “Are we looking at his memories, or is this about the dog?”

Depicting touching childhood, family and romantic scenes, his nostalgic artworks feature a neutral palette of greys and browns with splashes of vibrant colour and a unique inner glow created by the manipulation of light and shadow.
