COMING SOON: Whatshisname X Castle Fine Art

Later this month, we'll be launching the debut collection from Whatshisname, aka Sebastian Burdon. The Polish-born artist, who now lives in London, is the latest addition to our portfolio, joining world-class artists including Ronnie Wood and Bob Dylan, along with up-and-coming names like Alfie Bowen. Already exhibited in Hong Kong, Los Angeles and New York, the former 3D graphics designer will unveil limited edition sculptures and prints from his Whatshisname X Castle Fine Art release ahead of his monumental installation at Covent Garden in London this October.

Sebastian's POPek balloon dog sculptures hit the headlines in 2012 after being banned from London Underground stations for being 'offensive', and have since appeared everywhere from the Affordable Art Fair to the Cathay shopping centre in Singapore. Featured by BBC Lifestyle, he has previously worked with notable artists including Mat Collishaw, a prominent member of the Young British Artists alongside Damien Hirst.

Speaking on his collaboration with us, Sebastian says: “I’m excited about my partnership with Castle Fine Art because they are the industry leader in the UK and represent some of the biggest names on the planet. As an artist who is recognised and collected all over the world, I think we are a good match.”

Alongside the collection launch on Thursday 30th September, we'll also be revealing exclusive video content, including a behind-the-scenes tour of Sebastian's art studio and a tutorial of how he creates his Jeff Koons-inspired balloon dogs. Subscribe to our mailing list to find out more.

We'll be revealing the secrets behind Sebastian's balloon dog sculptures on our YouTube channel, so subscribe to our emails or follow us on social media at @castlegalleries to be the first to see new content. You can also read more about him on his artist page below.

Covent Garden exhibition...starts 8th October

Whatshisname's larger-than-life project at Covent Garden will feature four monumental balloon dogs from his POPek collection. With two pooches measuring four metres tall and the remaining two measuring three metres long, they will definitely be unmissable!

He says: "It’s the biggest thing I’ve ever done, and it’s happening right here in central London. I’m hoping that the installation will put a smile on the face of every person who passes by. The sculptures will be enormous and in nice, fun poses with very bright and vivid colours. My exhibition is designed not only for dog-lovers, but also for families and everyone who enjoyed birthday parties as a child. So I’m hoping to see lots of families having a good time.”

Visit the free exhibition from Friday 8th October

"I would describe my work as innovative, modern Pop Art. People can see the humour in them and they put a smile on their faces."
