Describing his new artworks as “nature’s silhouettes”, Richard Rowan has returned with three additions to his popular Twilight series. Created using his signature reverse painting-on-glass technique (find out more about this here), the artist has captured the majesty of the sky from a completely different perspective.
The hand-signed giclée prints also feature touching references to his family. Within the pieces, Richard, his wife and his two children are represented by trees or birds. As with all of his art, the pieces were created whilst listening to a specific song. Click on each individual artwork below to discover its accompanying soundtrack.
“The viewpoint is down low from my child’s perspective. It’s seeing their view of the world. Within this collection, I have challenged myself with the perspective of the painting; not only with the low viewpoint, but with the fading distance."
“I have developed working with five layers to capture this, when normally it is two or three layers. This has its hold-ups, including drying time. These are the lengthiest paintings I have ever completed, taking 30 hours over eight weeks (in sessions of 10 minutes to 10 hours).”
“Twilight is the light running out, and I suppose that time is also running out for climate change. This is a calm reflection upon what we are doing to our planet and the beautiful world around us.”
