Free UK delivery
Representative of the artist’s creative take on the moon landing, the pose of the astronaut is set to imply the weightlessness of the Moon's low gravity. “One Small Step: Lift Off” is a fun, beautiful, limited-edition sculpture by the mysterious artists Whatshisname.
Whatshisname knew he wanted to develop a sculpture centred around an astronaut. The initial idea of incorporating dance into these sculptures came from watching his children at their ballet classes. The fluidity of their movement and graceful poses inspired Whatshisname began to develop different styles of dance into the sculptures. The creative exploration led Whatshisname to designing several different astronaut sculptures depicting different dances.
This particular piece depicts a couple frozen in time in a magical pose reminiscent of the movie Dirty Dancing. As this dance pose requires a lot of trust from both dancers, the piece can be interpreted in many ways. “One of my favourite ways is that the right partner can be uplifting and can elevate one another figuratively speaking” the artist told us.
This piece is a Cast Marble Resin with a Chromed Visor. This piece is also available in a set of three.

This piece has a fulfilment date of May/June 2024.

The artist
Whatshisname
Unapologetically provocative, Whatshisname (aka Sebastian Burdon) fuses themes of childhood nostalgia and pop culture to create artworks that inspire happy and joyful feelings. His witty creative alias - inspired by his difficulty remembering artists' names - reflects his art, which has ruffled more than a few feathers in the industry.
