Both light-hearted and thought-provoking, ‘Lift Off’ is a playful blend of fantasy and satire, drawing viewers into Joly’s whimsical miniature world. Nic told us: “Perfect for sparking conversation, this artwork celebrates imagination, pushing boundaries, and finding humour in the unlikeliest of places. In my own small way, I strive to create my own worlds and sculptures to ask the questions we all face day-to-day, as well as highlight the madness around us".
Through tiny human figures in unexpected contexts, each piece invites viewers to reflect on love, resilience, and the complexities of daily life, offering a mix of playful charm and social commentary.
With his unique approach, using mixed materials such as wire, paper and found objects, Nic has pushed the boundaries of miniature art. Each component goes through a complex conception through a meticulous process which can involve carving, casting, moulding, sanding and hand-painting, before the painstaking construction of the artwork begins.

What began as Nic Joly's hobby has transformed into a passion for sculpting minute depictions of everyday life. The British artist's 3D wall sculptures tackle topics like love, sex, mental health and war in a touching and humorous way.
In 2024, we celebrated Nic Joly's tenth anniversary with Castle Fine Art and remembered the intricate details tell stories of moments lived, emotions felt, and a journey embarked upon. Yes, Castle Fine Art is based in the UK, but we ship internationally. All of our international orders are delivered via DHL.
To ensure a secure transit, every artwork is handled with utmost care. We take precautionary measures by using foam around the piece for added safety during transportation, and then the artwork(s) are packaged in double-walled, reinforced cardboard boxes that offer superior protection. All of this ensures that your artwork arrives safely.
Most artwork orders will need to be professionally mounted and framed before being dispatched, so delivery can take up to four weeks from the date you placed your order, but we do strive to deliver your order as soon as we can.
Books and gift cards are delivered within 2-3 working days. Please note, if multiple artworks are purchased within the same order, they may be delivered separately for efficient delivery.
The majority of our originals and limited editions are hand signed by the artist themselves. On some occasions where we have limited edition sculptures, this is hand written into the mould before production. If you're unsure, please contact us.
