Women in Water

These works explore femininity, this time through the shifting, fluid lens of water, which acts as a projection screen for desire and allure - a reflection of Pop Art itself.

The muses we see are glamourous, not superficial. They are real women with histories, perspectives, dignity and an emotional presence. Gill uses the recurring swimsuit motif to celebrate the female form, whilst observing the unity between body and water.

The water acts as a stage – a mirror and a veil all in one – balancing the interplay of revelation and concealment. The skin shines and contours blur, as Gill uses a luminous palette and layered brushwork to create reflections and distortions that are both photorealistic and atmospheric, making the subjects feel tangible yet mysterious.
