Hand-signed Giclée with Silkscreen Varnish and Hand Applied Collage Elements Limited Edition by Johnny Depp.
Accidents & Underdogs is Johnny Depp’s most layered and technically complex body of work to date, one which invites the viewer to slow down, look closer and decode. In the 2026 collection, Johnny Depp transforms the familiar shape of an everyday box into a canvas. What begins as an ordinary object, when deconstructed, becomes a stage for rebellion, reflection and nostalgia.
The series celebrates accident and instinct: the unplanned gesture, a symbolic reference, the forgotten image that suddenly finds its place. Each artwork honours the overlooked. As Depp explains, “It came to me one morning – I was having a cup of tea, it was the last bag in the box. I looked at the construction of the box, slipped a butter knife in, took the glue bits off and spread it out. The thing was in the shape of a weird crucifix. What an irony – in these everyday items you can find these things.”
For Depp, life is about embracing chaos, turning happy mistakes into moments of discovery – the process is intuitive and instinctive. As for underdogs, he holds them in high regard, finding their resilience and spirit deeply relatable.
Depp has previously reflected on the lives and legacies of Heath Ledger and Hunter S. Thompson, describing them as friends, heroes and artists whose unique contributions to the world are immortalised through their work. In this collection, Depp continues to honour their unrelenting spirits, ensuring their creative fires burn on. Rather than portraying the exact likeness of his chosen subject, Depp captures their essence by letting his hand instinctively create, with each of the three works taking a distinct path.
Drenched in layers of red and green, ‘Heath’ in homage to Ledger is grungy, earthy and raw. The artwork carries a density, a chaos, that feels entirely intentional yet remains mysterious.
Rooted in the spirit of classic Pop Art, Depp collages symbols of consumerism with fragments of personal history. The unfolded box becomes a visual anchor – and an inside joke – the cross, steeped in symbolism over centuries, reimagined by Depp with labels, playing cards, tags, graffiti and layered paint. His approach to composition is fuelled by unapologetic questioning of the status quo, playfulness and spontaneous creation. Depp’s box motif becomes a stage, a way to explore how new context and perspective can shift the meaning of words and symbols, forming a visual language that builds his own mythology.
This artwork is also available in a framed set of three.

The Art in Life

The artist
Johnny Depp
An imaginative storyteller, Johnny Depp has long found freedom through art. The artist's fluent, expressive style is in the vein of the artists we recognise as Neo-Expressionists.
For Depp, there has always been art. Before acting, and before music, art has always been an important outlet for his creativity. With his sketchbook as a permanent fixture in his hand, Depp is constantly sketching or visually conceptualising the world around him. His mind rejects the ordinary, challenges the accepted and oscillates between the pictorial and the lyrical, giving rise to his own multi-layered expressionistic style.
