In this painting Bob Dylan celebrates the freedom of the open road through the sublime expanse of the North American landscape. The concept of freedom of movement, both physically through the landscape and socially through personal development, is central to the ‘American dream’ and the American highway has evolved as a symbol of this liberty. The road, highways and the freedom they promise, are themes Dylan has long addressed in his song writing, subsequently in his visual art, and History Will Absolve Me continues this dialogue.
The vantage point of a vast road heading out before the viewer into a dramatic landscape is a composition Dylan has returned to several times, experimenting with the atmospheric effects of different colours and changing skies – comparable to his continual reworking of the lyrics of his songs. It reflects the unerring artistic spirit that American author Bill Flanagan describes in the exhibition catalogue for Dylan’s Retrospectrum at MAM Shanghai, ‘Dylan remains restlessly creative, going down the road with his eyes wide open … From the start, Dylan has been a man of vision and a man on a mission.’

We want you to love your artwork, so we offer a 14-day cooling-off period to view it in your home. If you’re not satisfied, we’ll collect it for free or you can return it to one of our galleries.

Derived from the French term gicler, meaning ‘to spray’, the term giclée refers to a refined digital printing process whereby microscopic dots of pigment-based ink are precisely sprayed onto archival-quality paper. This technique ensures that each limited edition graphic stays true to the original artwork. Celebrated for its remarkable richness, accuracy and incredible detail, giclée printing achieves an exceptional depth of colour through a wide colour gamut. By using multiple cartridges of pigmented, archival-quality inks with exceptional fade resistance, this printing method produces vibrant colours, deep blacks, and smooth tonal gradations that are designed to last for up to 200 years.

Yes, Castle Fine Art is based in the UK, but we ship internationally. All of our international orders are delivered via DHL.
To ensure a secure transit, every artwork is handled with utmost care. We take precautionary measures by using foam around the piece for added safety during transportation, and then the artwork(s) are packaged in double-walled, reinforced cardboard boxes that offer superior protection. All of this ensures that your artwork arrives safely.
Most artwork orders will need to be professionally mounted and framed before being dispatched, so delivery can take up to four weeks from the date you placed your order, but we do strive to deliver your order as soon as we can.
Books and gift cards are delivered within 2-3 working days. Please note, if multiple artworks are purchased within the same order, they may be delivered separately for efficient delivery.
The majority of our originals and limited editions are hand signed by the artist themselves. On some occasions where we have limited edition sculptures, this is hand written into the mould before production. If you're unsure, please contact us.
