Beyond the boundaries of the metropolis, Bob Dylan’s works often reveal a deep fascination with the grass roots of American identity found in the outer suburbs of these cities. They aim to reflect the essence of daily existence for many Americans living beyond the city centre, the everyday imagery of their lives punctuated by the facades of local shops, diners and derelict buildings. Airline Diner is based on the actual location of Jackson Hole Diner in New York, not far from La Guardia Airport.
Due to being on tour frequently since the 1960s, Dylan has spent most of his life on the road and is familiar with the feeling of detachment that can come with finding oneself in an unknown hotel room in an alien, sprawling city, or a neon-lit diner by the side of the road. This work in seems to put the viewer as an outsider looking in, as if seen through Dylan’s eyes. In this way, Airline Diner is closely related to the intriguing stillness found in the paintings of Edward Hopper. Despite the mass of people populating urban environments, cities are often the spaces where one can feel most isolated. Hopper’s works frequently encapsulate this feeling; his paintings depict cafes at night occupied by a few lonely figures.

For all orders of artwork, we advise delivery of up to four weeks from placing your order. Many of our pieces are handmade to order just for you here in the UK. Books and gift vouchers are delivered within 2-3 working days.

We want you to love your artwork, so we offer a 14-day cooling-off period to view it in your home. If you’re not satisfied, we’ll collect it for free or you can return it to one of our galleries.

Giclée Limited Edition
Derived from the French term gicler, meaning ‘to spray’, the term giclée refers to a refined digital printing process whereby microscopic dots of pigment-based ink are precisely sprayed onto archival-quality paper. This technique ensures that each limited edition graphic stays true to the original artwork. Celebrated for its remarkable richness, accuracy and incredible detail, giclée printing achieves an exceptional depth of colour through a wide colour gamut. By using multiple cartridges of pigmented, archival-quality inks with exceptional fade resistance, this printing method produces vibrant colours, deep blacks, and smooth tonal gradations that are designed to last for up to 200 years.

Yes, Castle Fine Art is based in the UK, but we ship internationally. All of our international orders are delivered via DHL.
To ensure a secure transit, every artwork is handled with utmost care. We take precautionary measures by using foam around the piece for added safety during transportation, and then the artwork(s) are packaged in double-walled, reinforced cardboard boxes that offer superior protection. All of this ensures that your artwork arrives safely.
Most artwork orders will need to be professionally mounted and framed before being dispatched, so delivery can take up to four weeks from the date you placed your order, but we do strive to deliver your order as soon as we can.
Books and gift cards are delivered within 2-3 working days. Please note, if multiple artworks are purchased within the same order, they may be delivered separately for efficient delivery.
The majority of our originals and limited editions are hand signed by the artist themselves. On some occasions where we have limited edition sculptures, this is hand written into the mould before production. If you're unsure, please contact us.
