Richard Rowan, a true lover of the natural world and passionate about capturing as much beauty in every way he finds it, returns with a new Spring collection in 2025. Creating a feel of wanderlust, the collection is full of moody and inspiring landscape artworks.
Inspired by his travels in the UK, especially the family trips to Scotland, in the three brand new artworks Rowan captures the beauty of fleeting moments. While the contrast between light and dark, stillness and movement is perfectly conveyed, the artworks are about change and feeling the moment. Portraying the constant state of transformation landscapes go through, evolving on the hour, season and weather, Rowan captures not only the place itself but the feeling of standing within it, watching as the sky darkens or the wind changes direction.
For over 15 years, Richard Rowan has trailblazed the medium of oil painting on glass to create artworks of incredible and atmospheric depth due to the being at the forefront of his very complex field.
Being at the forefront of his technique, Richard Rowan’s artworks are detailed with his characteristic photographic realism, illustrating the power of nature. The landscapes are reverse painted in layers on to the glass, which allows him to achieve the microscopic detail and preserve the vibrant colours. The method of underpainting from foreground to background, building layers in reverse, allowing each layer to dry before adding the next one leaves small margin for error and truly demonstrates Rowan’s beautiful, detailed artistry.
The artworks in this set are Hand-signed Flatbed Giclée on Glass by Richard Rowan. This set includes:

Flatbed Giclée on Glass
Given Castle Fine Art's expertise as UK's leading art retailer, we are committed to the highest standards specially regarding printing. Derived from the French term gicler’, the term describes a printing process whereby microscopic dots of pigment-based ink are sprayed onto glass to ensure the fidelity of a limited edition to an original artwork. It is believed that a giclée will significantly outlast a lithographic print, keeping its vivid colour for up to 200 years.
Richard Rowan Artistry
On his original artworks, the ground-breaking contemporary glass painter meticulously paints by hand in oils on the opposite side of the glass. Building layers in reverse, starting with the foreground and finer details before working in several layers to the background, is a technique Richard has trailblazed for over 15 years.

The artist
Richard Rowan
From the Icelandic wilderness to the fiery horizons of Thailand and towering mountains of Norway to spectacular Scotland, his atmospheric scenes allow viewers to escape from everyday life, creating a sense of intrigue in any living space. Richard is the only artist to be creating art in this style, and his incredible landscapes are so detailed that they are often mistaken for photographs, when in fact each one has been meticulously painted by hand using his reverse painting technique.
As the only fine artist successfully creating artworks in this style, Richard has become a part of the history of the glass art form, which dates back to Roman times and can also be seen in the Gothic period. Unlike canvas, glass interacts with the light, bringing his works to sparkling life.
