Antara 2026

Raphael Mazzucco

Antara 2026

Inspired by the architecture, energy and contrasts of Rajasthan, internationally acclaimed artist and photographer Raphael Mazzucco’s 2026 body of work emerges from a month-long journey through New Delhi, Jaipur, Ajmer, Jodhpur and Bikaner.

More than twenty-five years after his first encounter with India, Mazzucco returned not to rediscover a place, but to reconnect with a feeling — one found in surfaces shaped by time, where buildings absorb the rhythm of daily life and colour settles, fades and intensifies into something lived rather than designed.

Antara — Sanskrit for “the space between” — exists within this charged threshold: between memory and presence, stillness and chaos, the photograph and what it cannot hold.

Travelling with photographer and videographer Albi Jakici and model Sophia Petricenko, Mazzucco moved instinctively through Rajasthan’s ancient cities, surrendering to the beauty of ornamental Rajput architecture, and walls that carry decades of heat and touch.

The world is moving on so far,so quickly, but I feel like these photos will be timeless, capturing a living landscape that I’ve had the joy of experiencing.

The artist

Raphael Mazzucco

Canadian-born artist Raphael Mazzucco's visual narrative captures the human form against a backdrop of startling landscapes that span the continents, from Icelandic glaciers to African wildlife and Vietnamese rice paddies. By layering paint, photography, and hand-lettered text, Raphael takes viewers on a documentary-style journey through geographic and emotional terrains.

His work layers photography with text and natural elements such as flowers and leaves, and Raphael's pieces spring from lengthy expeditions where he lives and breathes his subjects. Raphael's working life actually began as a footballer in Canada and England; something which he credits with giving him the drive to become successful in the next stage of his life. After being shot by iconic photographer Bruce Weber for a Calvin Klein campaign, Raphael developed an interest in the art form and left sport behind.
