Craig Davison

Born: Sheffield
Lives and works: County Durham

After devouring comic books throughout his childhood, Craig Davison worked as a cartoonist during the late 1980s, specialising in pre-school comics. This style later influenced his own original artworks.

Inspiration

Painting on canvas, the figurative artist brings nostalgic memories to life. Through colour and energetic brush strokes, Craig captures endless summer holidays spent on his bike with friends (often rescuing Mexican villages from bandits!). Viewers may also recognise influences from popular films and TV shows like Scooby-Doo and Star Wars.

Craig cites Mike Mignola, Yoshitomo Nara and N.C. Wyeth amongst his inspirations. He first began his artistic career as an animator and games designer at a computer games company, before winning a place in the final three of a 2007 competition held by our publisher, Washington Green. Following this, the life of an artist beckoned.

Craig says: “Ideas come from everything and anything. Everywhere I look, images and ideas are lining up to be used.”
