Discover Stephen Roby's debut collection

With summer just around the corner, a splash of colour is just what we all need to get into the mood for happier times. So we're delighted to unveil a spectacular series of original works by the British painter Stephen Roby, who has has now joined our international family of contemporary artists.

Inspired by the everyday situations that we all experience and memories from his working-class childhood in 1970s Liverpool, the former IT engineer creates vibrant oil paintings that weave real life with the imaginary. From a space-hopping policeman to a glass of red wine over lunch at a European café, the Picasso-esque scenes incorporate geometric shapes and bold statement colours for a collection with some serious personality.

Each painting takes up to two months to complete, and is part of an intimate emotional connection between Stephen and his creation. Whether his paintings make you laugh, smile or roll your eyes in recognition, they will ultimately make you feel and remember life beyond the canvas.

Inside Stephen Roby's studio

Don't miss our video above for a sneak peek into the artist's Cheshire studio! When we stopped by to film for our YouTube channel, Stephen took us through how his understanding of 2D and 3D perspectives influences his work.

He told us: “It’s just simple geometric shapes, bright colours, some slight gradients and intersecting lines. A lot of the paintings are two-dimensional, so I try to make them more 3D by creating gradations around the edges and adding highlights."

"My style is a bit different to what you see out there at the moment. My engineering background has given me an eye for looking at certain things in a different way."
