Paul Corfield, one of Castle Fine Art’s most popular artists, returns with an autumn collection of six limited edition works which are sure to raise the spirits of art lovers as we enter the darker days of the year. Paul’s contemporary landscapes show the English countryside at its best, blending rolling hills, green fields and blue seas mixed with his imagination, which Paul uses to create idyllic images of rural life that everyone can escape into.

Paul’s trademark intricate detail can be seen on these new pieces which show beautiful sunrises and stunning sunsets across his imagined landscapes inspired by his beloved Dorset coast, which have won a place in the heart of so many collectors.

The new works are available individually, or as a set of six. Read on to discover how Paul created some of these new landscapes and click here to see his full collection.

The Long Road Around The Bay

Paul was inspired by a Hitchcock movie he watched in his studio when he was working, and there was a scene like the one he eventually created.  “A car came over a hill and then this long sea view stretched out ahead with a road that travelled the whole way around the bay and off far into the distance. I paused the movie and made a really quick thumbnail sketch which a few months later I developed into this painting”, he remembers.

Towards Evening

This calming piece draws inspiration from Paul’s beloved Dorset countryside, with the addition of a  lighthouse he saw at The Needles on the Isle Of Wight. The winding road that leads to Paul’s trademark cosy white cottage reminds us of the warmth that we feel going back to our own homes.

Sandy Bay Cottage

This is a view along the Dorset coast, the short stretch of coastline between Studland and Swanage where Paul has lived all his life, and the warmth he feels for this beautiful place is always reflected in his art. The bright graduated sky leads the eye across to the area of dark trees to the left, then along the foreground path, along the coast and back to the sun, like a continuous, calming loop.

Perfect Morning

An idyllic view which came from Paul’s fertile imagination. “Some days I sit down to sketch out the next painting and I'll have no preconceived idea of what the next painting will be, so I just say to myself: ‘Paul, where would you like to live today?’,” he says. This painting was born out of one such sketching session; initially it was sketched out on paper with a much lower hill just beyond the house and in the sketch there was only one tree to the right of the house and there were no sheep, the clouds were different too.  When it came to drawing it out onto canvas, Paul made these changes as he went along, and thinks the outcome vastly improved upon his initial idea.
