Hand-signed Silkscreen Limited Edition Artwork by James McQueen.
A continuation from the now sold-out collection, Anthology, James McQueen returns in 2026 with brand-new limited editions, exploring the power of stories beyond the printed page. Drawing together an eclectic collection of titles and cultural references, McQueen transforms familiar book spines into layered artworks that conjure narrative and memories. Removed from their original context, the titles begin new conversations, create unexpected connections and moments of humour.
Known for his playful approach to subverting familiar formats, McQueen reimagines the traditional bookshelf as a contemporary canvas. Through bold colour, rich texture and carefully considered juxtapositions, he transforms it into a playground of language and meaning. His tongue-in-cheek phrases, witty observations and playful declarations sit side by side to create unexpected narratives that feel at once familiar, personal and open to interpretation.
‘The layered textures and worn surfaces are intentional. I wanted these works to feel collected rather than created, as though they have lived a life of their own. Every mark, scrape and splash of colour adds to the sense of history, celebrating the beauty of objects that have been handled, treasured and passed from one person to another.’
Books have long served as vessels for ideas, romance, rebellion and discovery. In Anthology, those qualities are distilled into carefully curated compositions that prompt curiosity. A chance pairing of titles might spark a memory, suggest a story or raise a smile.
At once nostalgic and unmistakably contemporary, Anthology celebrates storytelling as a living process, one that is borrowed, shared, reinterpreted and rewritten. The collection invites us to participate in this journey of discovery and reinvention, where new meaning is forged in the individual response of every viewer. In McQueen’s words, ‘Anthology is for readers, collectors, dreamers and storytellers. It is a reminder that stories never truly end when the final page is turned; they continue to live on through the people who carry them forward.’
