Dreamscape

Raphael Mazzucco

Featuring iconic models, including Adriana Lima and Gisele Bündchen, Mazzucco captures intimate, dreamlike moments across breathtaking landscapes. From the jungles of the Amazon to the surreal dunes of White Sands, he introduces an ethereal haze to his unique combination of photography, handwritten text, and layers of resin. Working with a brand-new medium, Mazzucco’s Dreamscape collection is printed onglass to beautifully reflect the colour and luminosity of the resin originals.

Each artwork is a map of emotion filled with images and ideas that layer, interrupt, erase and blur. Mazzucco knows that dreams don’t obey logic, so the artwork doesn’t have to either. Incorporating torn details and shimmering loose pigments in his work for the first time, Mazzucco adds an otherworldly aesthetic to the artwork. He layers photographs taken on memorable shoots throughout his career, positioning them to uncover flashes of different images underneath, tearing the edges to allude to hazy, hard to reach memories.

The world is moving on so far,so quickly, but I feel like these photos will be timeless, capturing a living landscape that I’ve had the joy of experiencing.

The artist

Raphael Mazzucco

Canadian-born artist Raphael Mazzucco's visual narrative captures the human form against a backdrop of startling landscapes that span the continents, from Icelandic glaciers to African wildlife and Vietnamese rice paddies. By layering paint, photography, and hand-lettered text, Raphael takes viewers on a documentary-style journey through geographic and emotional terrains.

His work layers photography with text and natural elements such as flowers and leaves, and Raphael's pieces spring from lengthy expeditions where he lives and breathes his subjects. Raphael's working life actually began as a footballer in Canada and England; something which he credits with giving him the drive to become successful in the next stage of his life. After being shot by iconic photographer Bruce Weber for a Calvin Klein campaign, Raphael developed an interest in the art form and left sport behind.
