FDA THUMBNAIL V2

Frédéric Daty

Trinity | 2018

Using raw, hand-cut steel, Daty’s impressive wall sculptures explore the notion of urban cityscapes as an ecosystem, which has quickly become saturated with human beings. By the year 2040, over 50 billion people will inhabit urban zones, and these ever growing sprawling metropolises will increasingly blur city limits. Daty studies this relationship by emptying these overrun spaces of all living organisms, stripping them of their façade and retaining only the city’s core skeleton, carved from one of earth’s most fundamental materials.

“In short, there are always three elements to my work: the metal symbolising Mother Earth and our foundations, the stylised figurative shapes which represent the spiritual realm, and the light and shadows which evoke movement and change.” – Frédéric Daty
