Born and raised on the North side of Dublin, Alan Somers has always felt a deep connection to the city’s rhythm and energy. Growing up in a creative household – his father and brother both accomplished painters – sketchpads, pencils and paintbrushes were his constant companions from an early age.

While traditional schooling rarely sparked his imagination, art class became a refuge. There, a supportive teacher encouraged freedom over formality and urged him to trust his instincts, cultivating his lifelong passion for art.

After stepping away from painting for a time, Somers rediscovered his love for art through wide-ranging experimentation. Ultimately drawn to oil paint for its richness and versatility, he meticulously mixes custom palettes, using light and shadow to craft mood and narrative.

Best known for his evocative cityscapes, Somers’ artwork balances intimacy and movement, often capturing fleeting moments of light in familiar urban settings. Influenced by memory, photography, and imagination, his work explores the l emotional undercurrents of a place.
