An original pencil on paper drawing by popular artist Robert Bailey.

Robert Bailey's incredible talent for using pencil on paper is witnessed through iconic scenes from the Star Wars saga, like the above. From unforgettable characters and scenes, to sets and moments that have changed cinematic history, Robert's captivating drawings stretch across the galaxy.

A long time ago, not so far away, the use of pencils in fine art was born. Their use by artists is a rich and important history that can be traced as far back as the Ancient Greeks and up to today. Renaissance masters, like Leonardo DaVinci, used pencil on paper drawings as a complex medium to explore new ideas and compositions, rather than to simply copy and study other works. After the invention of the modern pencil in the 19th century, the use of it as a medium became more widely used and artists like Vincent Van Gogh and Edgar Degas applied the medium in new and bold ways to convey their Impressionist artworks. Today, artists like Robert Bailey bring this historic medium into the contemporary consciousness; harnessing its innate monochromatic quality to create dark, focused and detailed artworks.

You can harness the boldness of both Star Wars and Robert Bailey's medium in your home with one of these original artworks. Mounted and framed in luxurious painted pine and spruce wood, they add a bold yet sophisticated touch of sci-fi to any space.

About

About

Robert Bailey

Pencil artist Robert delights fans across the globe with his amazingly detailed Star Wars drawings and commissions of scenes from classic films. Even George Lucas has added them to his collection! Collectors of his Star Wars pieces include Harrison Ford, John Travolta, Tom Cruise, and the late Carrie Fisher. Robert’s art uses a method called hatching, whereby his closely-drawn parallel lines imply shade, tone and texture. The distance between the hatching marks determine how light or dark that area appears. Robert says about his art: “Only by practice can the dexterity of fine pencil work be kept up."
