About the collection

The dazzling array of large-scale canvasses depicts some of the world’s most beautiful flowers, including roses, hibiscuses, poppies, daisies and sunflowers. Each mixed media artwork has been hand-painted on a canvas with oil paint, acrylic gel and a high-gloss oil varnish, which creates a mesmerising effect in different lights.

“Words that I would use to describe this new work are: opulent, bold, colourful, earthy, layered, abstract, impressionistic, and expressionistic," says Stephen, who painted each piece at his studio in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire. "I want people to smile when they see the work. I want them to be happy. I want to evoke an emotional response, like when you receive flowers in real life. Everyone can relate to floral paintings on some level. I think floral art is timeless and will never go out of style."

Exclusive video interview

We joined Stephen at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens for the filming of his collection video. Set across 15 acres of outdoor space, this floral paradise features over 7,000 flowers and trees from around the world. With peacocks freely roaming the grounds and glasshouses transporting visitors everywhere from the Mediterranean to tropical rainforests, it was the perfect setting to find out more about Stephen’s new paintings.

"This collection is cheerful, romantic and uplifting…everything you’d expect floral art to be."
