As he recently revealed in our IGTV video series, the new 65 Weeks release from Nic Joly is the British sculptor's most intimate and ambitious series to date. A personal sketchbook of the weeks following Boris Johnson's announcement of a UK lockdown, the ten 3D wall sculptures were handmade in his Hampshire studio, making each one unique.
Featuring his signature miniature figures, the small-scale works boast handwritten elements and intricate details, including hand-cut tissue paper and replica mobile phones. Available in an extremely limited edition of just 65, they are both humorous – including a raunchy sex scene and the toilet paper panic-buying fiasco – and poignant, exploring Nic’s struggle with depression and the love he feels for his wife and children.
Nic, who has also created an NHS-inspired artwork, says: “When we all woke up on 23rd March 2020, none of us could really understand how our whole world was about to change forever. We were all suddenly given a focus, a spotlight in our lives and the world we live in. I wanted to do something hopeful. Smiles are far more contagious than any virus will ever be.”

Featured art: (L-R) Contagion and The Black Dog, both priced at £995. These stylish 3D wall sculptures are fantastic space-savers and can be hung individually or alongside other pieces from the collection. The cheeky messages are so discreet that it may take your guests a while to notice!
Those of you who have watched Nic's new videos will have seen inside his (very enviable) studio. If you missed these, you can catch up here.
It is here in the leafy suburbs of Hampshire that Nic creates his original and limited edition sculptures. The former furniture designer is a wizard of mediums, experimenting with everything from LED lights to toilet roll, Japanese inks, acryclics, soil and glitter to bring his miniature scenes to life.
The COVID-19 crisis has given Nic the space to explore new concepts, as he explains: "I had time to think, to grow what I believed in, and to look at ideas I had never had the time to look at before. I see 65 Weeks as a sketchbook of thoughts, observations and emotions. It's the most personal collection I've ever created."
"I think a lot of us probably drank too much and indulged in various other things to keep us distracted."
11/10/2020The incredible bravery of healthcare workers is celebrated in the miniature artist's touching new 3D wall sculpture, which will raise funds for NHS Charities Together.
