In a move away from his traditional style, Robert Oxley has returned with an explosive take on his popular collection, Primal Colours. Robert adopted a primary colour palette to reinvent art history. Diving into the narrative of animals, he researched cave paintings and bestiaries and took his own reference photography to capture the majesty of the animal kingdom.
For the bold Mufasa, the artist has kept the palette close to the natural colours of Mufasa with some accents to compliment the face.
Playing with the composition, Robert says: “I wanted to change the format of my work and not be confined to the shape and form of the animal’s head. A great way to do this is to fill the whole canvas giving me the opportunity to be explosive and keep the tempo upbeat.”
