For his dazzling Primal Colours collection, Robert adopted a primary colour palette to reinvent art history. Diving into the narrative of animals, he researched cave paintings and bestiaries and took his own reference photography to capture the majesty of the animal kingdom.
Robert says: “This is inspired by one of the first apes to learn sign language, Chantek the orangutan. I discovered him via a random TED Talk and was fascinated to discover that he was a keen painter who not only understood American sign language but also created his own way of communicating. For instance, he called ketchup ‘tomato toothpaste’ and contact lenses ‘eye drinks’ – which I love.”
