This charming artwork is a larger version of a small 8” x 8” study titled ‘Woodland Charm’, and was released to celebrate Paul’s 15th anniversary with Castle Fine Art.
To create the tiny leaves of the trees, Paul worked in a similar fashion to a pointillist artist, whereby he used optical mixing to add tiny individual dots of paint in up to seven complimentary colours. The effect of this is that the colours mix in the viewer’s mind from a distance, but can be identified separately up close.
Paul adds: “I love painting these multilayered hills that recede into the distant mist. On the other hand, it is always a bit daunting to start a painting like this because I know there will be hours upon hours of painting tiny little dots! It is a lot of fun.”
