Inspired by his childhood in 1950s Yorkshire, Nigel’s touching oil paintings depict scenes that kindle the memories of all those who view them.
The artist taught himself to paint at the age of 13 by studying the Old Masters. When he was 20, he hitch-hiked from Leeds to Paris to see a Picasso exhibition at the Louvre. With no money, he lived on milk and oranges and slept rough at nights, but he says it was all worth it!
He says: “I’d describe my work as small narrative vignettes. They’re like painting versions of film stills that capture intimate moments in time and observations of life, from the mundane to the profound.”
