The journey from modelling to completion for each sculpture is a lengthy and meticulous process. Lorenzo Quinn begins by sculpting the model in clay or wax to be coated in plaster, ensuring to etch all the details at this stage. Once the plaster has been removed, the finer details are then added, making each limited edition sculpture inherently unique. Layer by layer, the model is coated with liquid ceramic and sand until dry, ready for the molten metal to be poured inside. After breaking the ceramic away from the sculpture, the wielding and colouring can then be added, finalising the piece.
The creative journey for each piece begins with a poem before the any of the sculpting commences.
Poem: I see love as a continuous stream of emotions which must endure through time. It is for this reason that I have chosen a patina that gives the sensation of time passing. To love means also to let oneself be loved. It’s like a great tangled column of emotions where one gives and takes.
This piece is constructed from bronze, Cor-ten steel on Granite Base.
