In her stunning debut collection, Afterglow, Emma-Leone Palmer invites us to explore a supernatural negative space to navigate the neural pathways of our own minds.
Spiralling across each of the large-scale works is a seemingly chaotic entanglement of neon wires, symbolising the complexity of our thoughts and the digital information we receive and process on a daily basis. To create her celestial pieces, Emma allows her subjects to interact organically with pliable lighting strips and neon wires before painting with a colour palette similar to that used for infrared photography.
Emma says: “She's superhuman, but also uncertain and vulnerable; she's nervous to be herself. Vibrant yet tentative, she's exploring herself and who she is. I like to use hands as a form of expression."
