At first glance, the dark landscape in this artwork has a sombre feel to it. But it is, in fact, a heart-warming representation of the industrial northern landscape that Bob Barker, and many others, grew up in. Walking along the cobbled streets that he grew up, the figure in this portrait dons a flat cap and trench coat which combines with the elegant monochrome colour palette to create a nostalgic reference to an bygone era; as if in a black and white photograph.
Celebrating Bob's 15 years as an artist with us, this artwork forms part of his important 2022 collection From Yesterday to Here. Across the collection, we see references to some of his most critical artworks, themes and inspirations. From the landscape of his own childhood to a contemporary adaptation of a sell-out artwork; you can view the full collection here.
