And On Monday, God Made The World
Billy Connolly

Signed Stainless-Steel Sculpture on Black Granite Base by Billy Connolly.

Whilst on tour in Canada in 2007, Billy was inspired by Montreal’s drizzling rain to buy some felt-tip pens and a sketchbook. Over time, his drawings of little islands became intricate yet honest shapes – and Born on A Rainy Day began.

A reimagining of the sold-out artwork released in 2018, ‘And On Monday, God Made the World’ is inspired by Billy's past as a welder on Glaswegian dockyards. First appearing as sketches in his earlier Born on a Rainy Day collections, the world-famous musician and comedian later transformed these abstract artworks in sculptural form as seen here. The artist’s signature is inscribed onto the inside of the detailed wing.

Charmingly and unmistakeably witty with distinctive bold detailing, as featured by The Times and documentaries including Billy Connolly: It's Been a Pleasure, his minimalist artworks have been described as 'poignant', 'funny' and 'enigmatic' by critics.

Billy’s art is charmingly simplistic, his faceless figures possess an extraordinary self-awareness and humanity. Devoid of emotion or expression, their anonymity opens them up to individual interpretation, creating a unique bond with the viewer.

Speaking on the famous collection, Billy says: “I just want to keep honing the thing that I’ve got and make it better and better – that’s all. That’s the only ambition I feel."

This piece is a Stainless-Steel Sculpture on Black Granite Base. For an extra £1000, this limited edition can also be purchased in a set alongside the limited edition Giclée.

An original work of art is a one-off piece - painting, sculpture, mixed media - which is made by the artist themselves. When you buy an original piece of work, it comes with the knowledge that you own something incredibly special; almost a piece of the creator themselves. A limited edition is a translation of an original piece and there is a fixed number of these made. The piece will be signed by the artist, and the edition number will show you which number in the series you have purchased. Read more about the different types of art we sell here.

Will you install my art?

We do offer an installation service should you need assistance. You can contact our art consultants for further information here. Please note that this is currently only available in mainland UK.
