Perfect vision: how contemporary artists create idyllic scenes
From the rolling hills of the British countryside to the wide-open skies of the Nevada desert, artists and collectors have long turned to landscapes as a source of calm and contemplation. Idyllic scenery in art offers more than beauty, it becomes a moment of pause, a breath of serenity, and a window into a world where urban life feels far away.
For centuries, masters such as J.M.W. Turner, John Constable and Claude Monet transformed the landscape into a stage for light, colour and atmosphere, creating works that continue to inspire how we see nature today. Their paintings captured not only the physical environment, but also its emotional refuge, a legacy that resonates powerfully with contemporary artists.
Today, Lawrence Coulson, Paul Corfield, John Myatt and Raphael Mazzucco carry forward this tradition, each in their own unique way. Whether through expansive vistas bathed in dramatic light, surreal compositions of rolling countryside, or immersive works that blur the line between photography and painting, their art channels the timeless human desire to find beauty and tranquillity in turbulent times.

Lawrence Coulson
Contrived from a combination of real locations and details he has seen in books and photographs, Lawrence Coulson’s paintings seamlessly blend an array of influences to create picturesque locations for us to get lost in. The artist created his Autumn 2025 collection with the hope of providing space for viewers to sink into a moment of reflection.
The artist is known for his ability to create a distinct sense of atmosphere that surrounds us in the feeling of the scenery and encourages us to imagine ourselves as the small figures often featured within his artwork. By centring these small figures, Coulson uses perspective to enhance the grandeur and magnitude of the landscape. He encourages us to observe the scenery with a sense of reverence, reminding us how small we are compared to the awe-inspiring scale of nature.

Paul Corfield
Inspired by his beloved home in Dorset, Paul Corfield paints idyllic British countryside and ocean views, instilled with the warm and cosy feeling of being welcomed home. The artist’s love for his home can be felt in every brushstroke, from his delicately crafted sunsets to the single lit window in each tiny white house. Introducing a surrealist edge to his rural British scenery, he combines highly detailed realistic elements with bubble-shaped clouds and vibrant colour palettes in his August 2025 collection.
Painting his idea of perfection, the artist adds finer details into specific elements of each artwork – whether it’s the wood of a tree, the frothing texture of crashing waves, or the blend of warm, vibrant colour that surrounds a picture-perfect sunset. To further the idealised nature of his work and allow us to truly escape into his scenes, Corfield never features telephone wires, busy roads or streetlights. His artworks encapsulate his vision of a blissful, uninterrupted landscape.

John Myatt
When we think of idyllic scenes in art, some of the first images to come to mind are Monet’s immersive waterlily paintings from his time spent at Giverny. Some of the most famous images from the Impressionist movement, these artworks are instantly recognisable all over the world. Inspired by the soothing waters and soft light of Monet’s artworks, former master art forger John Myatt stepped into the artist’s shoes, adopting his signature style.
To ensure he could accurately capture the magic and serenity of Giverny, Myatt visited the gardens that Monet so famously painted. He wanted to be able to recreate the feeling and emotion of the original artworks rather than just the brushstrokes. Paying homage to countless famous artists throughout his career, Myatt seems to always find himself drawn to their visions of beauty – from Van Gogh’s ‘The Starry Night’ to Monet’s paintings from Giverny.

Raphael Mazzucco
Internationally acclaimed photographer Raphael Mazzucco has always been captivated by immense, vast landscapes. Inspired by his father – a landscape artist specialising in Japanese gardens – his strong reverence for nature, interest in symbolism and innate attraction to simple beauty are all evident in his artwork.
The artist’s Dreamscape collection is a culmination of destinations he has visited that had a notable impact on him – from the jungles of the Amazon to the surreal dunes of White Sands. However, this collection of artwork does not place focus on the landscapes themselves, but on the feelings they evoke. It’s about capturing a place in a perfect moment that does not exist in reality – it’s idyllic, a dreamland. Evoking strong feelings of nostalgia for long forgotten places and memories, Mazzucco surrounds torn photographs, found objects and bold pigments in glossy veils of resin, suspending the moment in time for eternity.
