Creating images of decadence and vice through candy colours and playful form, Graceland London presents the perfect balance between the beautiful and the dark, reflecting the social and economic climate with a supernatural scepticism.
A femme fatale figure plays chess, but the pawns are far from traditional. The bloodied hand of another touches the player’s wrist, are they looking to take control of her game? The painting features many of Graceland London’s signature motifs, including the ‘squeegee’ – a small, colourful, expressive character that represents the ego, often acting as an indicator of the wider narrative behind the image.
With an assorted melting pot of inspiration, Graceland London sees her paintings as faceless self-portraits, highlighting the strength, darker beauty and resilience of women, whilst tackling emotions and themes that everyone can connect with, no matter who they are.
The collection’s title, Spotlight on the Shadows, reflects Graceland London’s interest in the natural duality of life and the idea of ‘sonder’, the realisation that everyone you see has a life as full and complex as your own.
The skull, the egg, the leading femme fatale; all familiar iconography seen throughout art history, from the old masters to contemporary pop art, but Graceland London uses them differently. While whole eggs have traditionally been featured to represent optimism and new life, Graceland London inverts this tradition by presenting surrealist-style fried eggs with golden yellow or acid green yolks as a poignant metaphor for how identities and perceptions are moulded by society’s expectations and norms.

The artist
Graceland London
Graceland London is a British artist born in London. She developed a passion for drawing and painting from a young age. Her fascination for art led her to study a BA in Fine Art and History of Art at Hampstead Fine Arts. It was here that she developed a passion for Italian Renaissance and 15th century Flemish paintings. This passion would have a massive impact on her practice and remains with her to this day.

Yes, Castle Fine Art is based in the UK, but we ship internationally. All of our international orders are delivered via DHL.
To ensure a secure transit, every artwork is handled with utmost care. We take precautionary measures by using foam around the piece for added safety during transportation, and then the artwork(s) are packaged in double-walled, reinforced cardboard boxes that offer superior protection. All of this ensures that your artwork arrives safely.
Most artwork orders will need to be professionally mounted and framed before being dispatched, so delivery can take up to four weeks from the date you placed your order, but we do strive to deliver your order as soon as we can.
Books and gift cards are delivered within 2-3 working days. Please note, if multiple artworks are purchased within the same order, they may be delivered separately for efficient delivery.
The majority of our originals and limited editions are hand signed by the artist themselves. On some occasions where we have limited edition sculptures, this is hand written into the mould before production. If you're unsure, please contact us.
