The new release of ‘A Load of Old Bollocks’ is Connolly’s second limited edition to explore the theme of variation, after the celebratory 80th birthday now sold-out release of ‘Free Flight’ in 2022. The series of 365 artworks, each in a different colour way with variations, gives collectors the opportunity to own a unique impression of one of the artist’s best-loved images.
The artworks are hand-signed and numbered in Roman numerals I-CCCLXV. The format reflects Connolly’s delight in the individual response of each viewer, and his openness to multiple narratives and interpretations of his work.
The humorous title is a favourite of Connolly's, who introduces the 2026 release with apt irreverence: ‘This is a load of old bollocks. That's why it's called that. It gives you the opportunity to say it to its face; you're a load of old bollocks.’ For Connolly, whose singular way with words has touched the lives of millions worldwide, the title is a ‘lovely statement’ that pleases him greatly, a universal expression that ‘just sums things up’.
Connolly explains that the graphic, abstract image emerged intuitively through drawing circles and lines without a predetermined plan and, subsequently adding colour, it evolved into something he liked. Rather than instruct an exact meaning, Connolly has likened ‘A Load of Old Bollocks’ to forms as diverse as a basket of balls in a design store – 'a load of old balls’ – a black hole from outer space, and a surreal game of marbles. It is an artwork about creativity, spontaneity and a joyful approach to art making and collecting. As Connolly recently explained, ‘when I tell anybody what it's called, they burst out laughing, that's the joy of it. It speaks for itself. It just sits there and glows.’

Yes, Castle Fine Art is based in the UK, but we ship internationally. All of our international orders are delivered via DHL.
To ensure a secure transit, every artwork is handled with utmost care. We take precautionary measures by using foam around the piece for added safety during transportation, and then the artwork(s) are packaged in double-walled, reinforced cardboard boxes that offer superior protection. All of this ensures that your artwork arrives safely.
Most artwork orders will need to be professionally mounted and framed before being dispatched, so delivery can take up to four weeks from the date you placed your order, but we do strive to deliver your order as soon as we can.
Books and gift cards are delivered within 2-3 working days. Please note, if multiple artworks are purchased within the same order, they may be delivered separately for efficient delivery.
The majority of our originals and limited editions are hand signed by the artist themselves. On some occasions where we have limited edition sculptures, this is hand written into the mould before production. If you're unsure, please contact us.
