Dan Lane

Having developed the concept behind Of This Earth over the course of years, Dan Lane was determined to make his vision a reality. Through constant research and experimentation, Lane refined the idea to create this striking collection of sculptures.

Depicting the circularity of nature, Of This Earth shows a skull absorbed by crystals and minerals of the earth, whilst flowers bloom, and butterflies – a symbol of rebirth – thrive. Exploring the undiscriminating persistence of the natural world, Lane shows how as one living being dies and returns to the earth, others can flourish.

Master of blending the dark and the light, the artist presents his signature skulls – for the first time – in a chrome lustre.

The artist

Dan Lane

Dan Lane's works certainly have a contemporary, urban edge, but as an artist, he is hugely influenced by the Renaissance. He is inspired by the sculptures found in churches and cathedrals around the world, particularly the flamboyant styling of the Italian sculptor and architect Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the artist credited with creating the Baroque style of sculpture, and other Italian artistic geniuses Michelangelo and Antonio Canova.

Nature also influences Dan's art, with many pieces featuring flowers, insects, and birds. For his original 3D sculptures, Dan experiments with colours, finishes and textures. These include crushed glass, gold and silver leaf, marble, bronze, and glass diamonds.
