In a brand-new body of work the wildlife British painter, Robert Oxley, takes inspiration from iconic 20th century paintings. Oxley’s interpretation sits at an experimental mood and while the genre is distinct from his famous big cats’ artworks, the painter’s style shines through in the kaleidoscopic colour palette and expressive brushwork.
Fascinated with the artwork since the first time he saw it as a child in a postcard in the Natural History Museum, Oxley’s appreciation for Durer’s works only grew in adulthood.
Produced in 1515, Albrecht Durer’s Rhino artwork was based on a written description of a rhino that arrived in Lisbon, Portugal, becoming the defining image of a rhino for centuries to follow and a symbol for the Renaissance fascination with discovery, curiosity, and artistic innovation. The inspiration for Oxley came from the extraordinary depiction of a ‘never-seen-before animal’ purely based on a description. Durer’s ability to use his artistic imagination with very limited scientific knowledge resulted in a realistic and almost mythical representation of the reptilian, a perfect blend of fact and fantasy.

All our artwork is made to order in Birmingham, UK, ensuring top quality. Please allow up to four weeks for delivery. Each piece is carefully crafted to meet our high standards.
If you order multiple artworks, they may arrive separately for efficiency.
Returns
We offer a 14-day cooling-off period so you can view the artwork in your home. If it's not right for you, we’ll collect it free of charge or you can return it to one of our galleries.

Robert Oxley
As a child, Robert Oxley spent his hours roaming the forests around a north-east coalmining village, dreaming of becoming a zookeeper. Today, the lions, tigers and elephants who roamed his imagination are given life in his dazzling wildlife paintings. Immersing himself in pop surrealism, Oxley presents viewers with what he calls 'psychedelic natural history'.
Oxley's affinity with nature is evident in every instinctive brushstroke. He began his art career by painting his school friend's denim jackets with the logos of their favourite heavy metal bands. This rock 'n' roll ethos can be seen in his art, with its loose paintwork and free attitude, which makes it so popular with his many collectors.

Yes, Castle Fine Art is based in the UK, but we ship internationally. All of our international orders are delivered via DHL.
To ensure a secure transit, every artwork is handled with utmost care. We take precautionary measures by using foam around the piece for added safety during transportation, and then the artwork(s) are packaged in double-walled, reinforced cardboard boxes that offer superior protection. All of this ensures that your artwork arrives safely.
Most artwork orders will need to be professionally mounted and framed before being dispatched, so delivery can take up to four weeks from the date you placed your order, but we do strive to deliver your order as soon as we can.
Books and gift cards are delivered within 2-3 working days. Please note, if multiple artworks are purchased within the same order, they may be delivered separately for efficient delivery.
The majority of our originals and limited editions are hand signed by the artist themselves. On some occasions where we have limited edition sculptures, this is hand written into the mould before production. If you're unsure, please contact us.
