Art and fashion collaborations

The worlds of art and fashion have always been intertwined. Fashion, as a part of our daily lives, is regularly depicted in art, and many masterpieces serve as a source of inspiration for both haute couture and prêt-à-porter designers alike. Here are just a few of the many collaborations that have fused art and fashion over the years.

(L-R) Elsa Schiaparelli and Salvador Dali: Italian fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli collaborated with Salvador Dali to create the infamous lobster dress, a silk evening gown with an oversized crustacean print. American socialite and the future duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson, wore it for a Vogue photoshoot in 1937. The lobster had been a recurring motif in Dali's art since 1934.

The Mondrian Collection of Yves Saint Laurent

During his long and distinguished career, Yves Saint Laurent brought art onto the catwalk many times. The Mondrian collection was an eccentric tribute to the Dutch painter, capturing current trends like horizontal lines, colour blocks and geometric patterns.

Vans x Van Gogh Museum

Transferring Vincent van Gogh's iconic artworks - including 'Sunflowers', 'Skull' and 'Almond Blossom' - onto Vans Classics and other apparel made his art accessible to the fashion-forward. Commenting on the 2018 collaboration, the managing director of the Van Gogh Museum, Adriaan Dönszelmann, said: "By uniting Van Gogh's iconic artworks with iconic Vans styles, our partnership brings Vincent's art 'off the wall' and into the world."

Our artists and fashion

Fashion photographer and fine artist Raphael Mazzucco seamlessly merges cutting-edge photography with painting, mixed media and old-school film development. His dreamlike artworks capture the beauty of the human form against a backdrop of nature’s grandeur.

Former Miss France Pascale Taurua explores themes of womanhood and femininity, with her provocative paintings presenting clothing as a multilayered symbol and a crucial element of self-expression.

Featured art 'Frantic Subconscious' by Raphael Mazzucco, £10,950 and 'Fashion Week Paris' by Pascale Taurua, £2,450.
