Art Consultation
Hand-signed Flatbed Giclée on glass limited edition artwork by Richard Rowan.
Celebrating 20 years with Castle Fine Art and marking another significant chapter in Richard Rowan’s artistic journey, the Summer 2026 collection invites viewers into landscapes shaped as much by emotion as by place.
Drawing inspiration from the natural world while embracing artistic interpretation, the compositions blend real locations with imagined possibilities, resulting in landscapes that feel both familiar and timeless. While this collection reflects upon two decades of technical innovation and artistic growth, it is equally focused on the future. Rather than a culmination, the artworks represent a continuation of Rowan's lifelong exploration of landscape, light and atmosphere.
With vast horizons and luminous skies, ‘I'm Possible’ creates a moment of quiet contemplation that feels suspended between memory and imagination. The recurring elements of earth, water and sky create a visual language that has become synonymous with Rowan's work.
"Earth, water, sky - they're the obsession," says Rowan. "They were here long before us and will be here long after. That's why there are no people in my paintings. It could be the past or the future ".
There is a profound sense of stillness within the artworks, inviting us to pause and reconnect with the wonder of the natural world whilst experiencing the emotions that live within it. Yet beneath their tranquillity lies a quiet energy; a tension between light and darkness, clarity and obscurity, permanence and change. As Rowan himself describes it, "Stillness is a moment of perfection. A moment of clarity. A moment of calm in an ever more chaotic world."
Twenty years of artistic development have brought Rowan's reverse oil-on-glass technique to an extraordinary level of refinement. Working in carefully constructed layers, Rowan builds each painting from darkness towards light. Intricate foundations are gradually developed through successive applications of oil paint, with areas blended, refined and selectively revealed to create remarkable depth and luminosity. The unique properties of painting on glass allow colours and highlights to retain an exceptional radiance, producing surfaces that appear to glow from within.

The artist
Richard Rowan
From the Icelandic wilderness to the fiery horizons of Thailand and towering mountains of Norway to spectacular Scotland, his atmospheric scenes allow viewers to escape from everyday life, creating a sense of intrigue in any living space. Richard is the only artist to be creating art in this style, and his incredible landscapes are so detailed that they are often mistaken for photographs, when in fact each one has been meticulously painted by hand using his reverse painting technique.
As the only fine artist successfully creating artworks in this style, Richard has become a part of the history of the glass art form, which dates back to Roman times and can also be seen in the Gothic period. Unlike canvas, glass interacts with the light, bringing his works to sparkling life.
