This original by Paul Kenton is simultaneously full of colour and darkness. Using sharp, small, and colourful accents, the artist has brought the gritty and hustle of New York city to life accentuated by the representation of light, which has always been a key medium for Kenton’s breath-taking cityscapes.
The genre of cityscapes in fine art was made famous by impressionist artists like Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro, although the genre can be traced back as early as the Middle Ages. Paul Kenton brings this genre into contemporary art through unconventional canvases, brushstrokes, tools and perspectives. The result is a hypnotising and beautiful artwork similar to that of the Impressionist painters of the 19th century, who were praised by history for their art that captured the energy and atmosphere of landscapes.
From the brightness of day to more warm and muted tones at dusk, this transformative masterpiece really brings the “Big Apple” to life in your home. Rather than a still moment in time, Paul tries to capture a sequence of movements in his landscapes by “painting freely, and applying the paint fast, so that it will drip onto sections of the painting”.
