This luxuriously coloured and textured oil painting by Pascale Taurua showcases a seductively neutral colour palette with sharp red accents. The richly toned oils drip down the canvas, perfectly framing the model whose face is obscured. Therefore, her identity is represented by her fashionable clothing; a concept not unique to contemporary art!
Across art history, many affluent women had their portrait painted and the most successful of these would come to represent the woman's whole political, economical and social identity. The most effective way to do this was through the painting of their clothing which could outrage critics, influence trends and form political stances. Notable examples, such as 'Portrait of Madame X' by John Singer Seargent in 1883, have been immortalised through the striking representation of fashion.
Bringing this empowering tradition into contemporary art is Pascale Taurua, whose own depictions of dress and accessories captivate viewers across the globe. This unique original artwork is then the perfect way to add a contemporary yet classical touch to your wall.

The artist
Pascale Taurua
With a unique combination of figurative art with elements of the French street art aesthetic, Pascale creates powerful and sensual artworks that celebrate the beauty of fashion as a form of self-expression. Her earlier career, heavily focused on the fashion industry, introduced Pascale to the idea of painting her memories and exploring the multitude of influences of the fashion world and how clothing has such a strong impact on how they make people feel. The artist newest collection is a combination of those influences with more focus on the celebration of confident female figures. Mainly inspired by strong female characters, the artworks are bold statements in celebration of being happy in your own skin and to demonstrate the female strength and power.
Her sensual paintings often feature classic French brands, including Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and more.
