Before Billy was one of the world’s most adored comedians, he began his working life as a welder in the Glasgow shipyards. He joined the Territorial Army and learned the banjo, playing regular shows with his band the Humblebums. But the jokes he told in between songs eventually took over his act and he took up comedy full time. The rest, as they say, is history.

Billy has always been known for his mischievous view of the world and his joyfully eccentric style choices. This creative expression has taken many forms outside of comedy, be it music, acting or, predominantly over the last decade, art.

With elements of his own life unexpectedly appearing throughout his work, Billy creates his art at his Florida home. Whatever takes his imagination, he gets down on paper, creating as much joy as one of his legendary comedy sketches.

Communicating his humour through shapes and lines, it was on a rainy day in 2007 that Billy first put pen to paper. Taking refuge from the grey drizzle of Montreal, Canada, he entered an art shop with a twinkling curiosity and left with an armful of supplies and the urge to create. Over the next five years his drawings developed into his debut fine art collection, Born on a Rainy Day, which launched in 2012 and continues to connect with collectors today.

Described by The Times as 'poignant', 'funny' and 'enigmatic', Billy’s highly collectible prints and stainless-steel sculptures are as amusing as his comedy. Although his figures are faceless, they still manage to possess an extraordinary self-awareness and humanity, whilst their anonymity opens them up to individual interpretation, creating a unique bond with the viewer.
