The Eye of Heaven Shines | 2020

The new collection by Scarlett Raven and Marc Marot takes inspiration from David Hockney and Anselm Kiefer and showcases nature and its symbolism. Exploring new textures and materials has allowed Scarlett to develop her relationship with colour further, and experiment with the overall composition of her paintings. Far from being a hindrance, Scarlett credits her dyslexia with allowing her to interpret and wield patterns and shapes, which she carries through into her work. This is key to the progression we see here in Scarlett’s landscapes; the previous predominantly horizontal orientation of her work has evolved to accommodate the towering majesty of the trees that have come to mean so much to the artist.

The Danger Tree | 2018

On 1st July 2016, with the help of the award-winning film set designer Kaye Quinn, a 2,500 sq. ft unit in London’s Greenwich became a blown-out building in a war-ravaged Flanders village. As the sound of heavy artillery fire blasted in the distance, viewers stepped through the rubble and barbed wire into the First World War. The Danger Tree had begun. This November, to mark the centenary of the Great War, creators Scarlett Raven and Marc Marot have released a new artwork from the groundbreaking augmented reality project. The emotive piece is inspired by Marc's late grandfather, who regaled a young Marc with tales of battle.

About The Danger Tree | 2018

Telling an immersive story of the soldiers who fought and fell between 1914 and 1918, the body of work is created by painter Scarlett Raven and digital artist Marc Marot. It takes its name from the only tree left standing on the battlefield during fighting, with inspirations including the legendary war poets Wilfred Owen, Siegfried Sassoon and Rupert Brooke. Augmented reality allows viewers to unlock the creative journey with their smartphone, stripping away the countless layers of paint to reveal the poetry, animation and music beneath. To unlock the multiple layers in Scarlett’s work, simply download the Artivive app.
