Pour le Plaisir | Pascale Taurua | 2019
The empowering Pascale Taurua returned in November 2019 with two striking limited edition artworks from her Pour le Plaisir collection. Both of the portraits were beautifully hand-finished with gold leaf, adding a touch of glamour. These glistening masks symbolise her belief that we “convey an image of ourselves that is a façade”, hiding our true self to conform to societal codes. Behind the mask
Pascale begins each portrait by drawing several different facial expressions. She believes an understanding of the asymmetry of the human face is essential for mastering a portrait. Once she has captured the face, she creates a sketch in charcoal, pencil or oil before starting to paint. Following this, the gold leaf is delicately applied.
