‘Groundbreaking historical event’: Bob Dylan's Mondo Scripto

As Bob Dylan’s Mondo Scripto exhibition enthralled viewers at Halcyon Gallery in Mayfair in October 2018, we caught up with our sister gallery's president, Paul Green. He talked us through Bob's musical prowess, and how the collection of handwritten lyrics and drawings brings new meaning to his songs. 

“Dylan’s creativity across all mediums has established him as a modern legend, informing and shaping each generation for more than half a century,” Paul explained. “In this groundbreaking historical event, Dylan has for the first time ever fused together his artistic disciplines, bringing a new perspective to the music and lyrics.”

With an unrivalled musical portfolio that dates back to 1962, Mondo Scripto explores his seminal body of work from many different and surprising angles. Dylan is continually breathing new life into his songs, reworking them to unveil new discoveries in each chord and phrase. The individual pencil drawings that accompany each lyric enhance this unfolding dialogue with his audience, with popular titles including 'It's All Over Now, Baby Blue' and 'Maggie's Farm'.
