Eden in Manchester: Emma Grzonkowski

Inspired by the ethereal nature of women, Emma Grzonkowski fuses reality with fantasy for her stunning new collection, Eden. The original paintings were showcased at our Manchester gallery last week, with our artspace transformed into a floral Utopia!

The body of work takes its title from the Garden of Eden. From irises to dahlias and gardenias, the figurative artist explores the symbolism of flowers and their historical legacy with a noticeably broader colour palette and bolder energy inspired by the hip-hop genre and artists like Alphonse Mucha and Frida Kahlo.

Emma explains:  "The garden relates to the idea of creation and a fresh start, which is represented in the collection's narrative undertones. My figures are frozen in an existential, dreamlike state. It's about seeing into the future and laying the past to rest."

"Stepping into the gallery on Thursday evening was like stepping into Eden itself. The scene was set beautifully for Emma’s fabulous new collection and it was an absolute pleasure to be a part of this wonderfully exciting show. "

Healing with art: Emma speaks to Cheshire Living

Emma featured in the November issue of the bestselling lifestyle magazine, Cheshire Living, sharing her story of how art has helped her through difficult times in her life.

She reveals: “The source of my artwork always stems from an emotion or energy that I want to convey on the canvas from within. The nucleus of my work revolves around matters of the heart, either from my own feelings and personal experiences or from identifying with other people and translating their emotions."
