Playful sculptor Steve first learned how to create balloon animals at a children’s party and has delighted youngsters and adults alike ever since.
With over 30 years’ experience under his belt, the artist has experimented with a wide range of materials, including bronze, wood, fibreglass, ceramic, resin and steel. By not constraining himself to one medium, he allows his work to continuously evolve.
Citing the famous Japanese-born balloon twister Masayoshi Matsumoto as a source of inspiration, he has no pretentions about his art. In his own words, he wishes to create pieces which “looks great on a gallery plinth or by the kettle in the kitchen.” Put simply, he wants to make viewers smile.
Steve says: “Doing what I do brings happiness to both me and my collectors. It draws upon a symbol of happiness embedded in our collective psyche from our formative years, themes of children’s parties and simple pleasures.”
