Abstract artist Linda Charles’ street-inspired pieces impressed judges at our 2016 IN:SIGHT competition.
Her passion for the genre began during her time studying textiles and fashion at Scotland’s Herriot Watt University. Since then, she has worked with prestigious galleries across the UK.
Inspired by the raw beauty of the streets, Linda collects a range of materials to allow patterns, colours and textures to emerge organically. She enjoys working on distressed surfaces with multiple layers to create depth. Describing her art as physically and spiritually tangible, she says her aim is to bring the feel, colour and design of the streets indoors.
Linda says: “My inspiration comes from things overlooked and taken for granted. I love peeling paint, old weather-beaten doors and window frames, rusted metals and old tarnished mirrors. I want to mix the old with the new.”
